How to gain trust in your new CEO?

  • The decision to hire a new CEO to run your company is a big one, therefore it is important that you trust the person that you have hired. This can be difficult however as it is not easy to gain trust in people, especially when they have a job where mistakes have such huge consequences. Therefore it is important that you know how to gain trust in your new CEO quickly.

In order to gain trust in your new CEO you are going to give it to him right from the beginning. This can be a problem for a lot of people when they hire a new CEO to run the company that they have built from the ground up. Trusting somebody else to run it can be difficult. However if you don't give him that trust you will never be able to see how he does at running the company. That means that you are going to have to step back and allow him a free hand to make his own decisions. That is the only way that you are going to know if he is able to do the job.

Of course giving the CEO a free hand does not mean that you can not look at what your CEO has done and assess the results. The big thing that you are going to want to look for is that your new CEO is taking responsibility for what he is doing. Not everything he does will work out perfectly, it didn't for you and it won't for the new CEO either. You have to expect these failures to occur and you can learn a lot about your CEO by how he responds to them.

When thing do not go well for the company your CEO has to be the one who takes responsibility for it. If he starts making a lot of excuses or blaming other people than this is probably not a person that you can trust to be the CEO. The CEO of a company is responsible for the running of that company, if he is not willing to take responsibility for the way the company is being run then he should not be doing the job.

One other thing that you need to make sure that you look for in a CEO is that he disagrees with you from time to time. The last thing that you want is a CEO who agrees with everything that you say. At best this is a person who will just go along with whatever you want because he thinks this is easiest, at worst he doesn't actually know what he is doing. A lot of business owners like to hire people who agree with them to run the company because they think that their way of doing things is best. This is rarely a good option however, you need to have a CEO with his own opinions and who is willing to stand up for them.
